About us

INTRODUCTION

The "We Care Project Initiative" is a Community Development & Support Project that will undertake to develop, empower and provide aid to underprivileged communities in the Northern Area’s of Port Elizabeth, focusing on the children and youth in particular.
 

ORIGINS & REASONS FOR EXISTENCE

We Care Project Initiative was  founded way back in 2007 by Mr and Mrs Arends and registered as a Non Profit Organization (NPO 065-179). The Executive of which consists of 5 people ably supported by an
Operational Task Team consisting of members from the community.

We are passionate about finding new radical ways of reaching out to the community targeting the disadvantage 
communities and especially those individuals that find themselves in the many unpleasant and unbearable circumstances 
life affords them leaving them to survive and cope from day to day facing uncertainty and with life threatening
questions. This initiative aims at providing enabling conditions to answer these questions and to provide assistance to them by doing everythiong possible to make things happen.

Our main objective is:

  • To establish a Health and Wellness Centre for:- Voluntary Counseling and Testing, Health and Wellness
    programs, Blood and Sugar Testing, Pick up point for the old and infirm's medication, Teenage pregnancy
  • Testing and counseling, (ARV site) etc. Our Health Care Centrum is accredited by the Health Department as a non-mendical / ARV site and participate in the HCT Program.
  • Training Programs are: Home Based Care, Office Administration, Computer Training and Volunteer Training
  • After School Classes - special projects and research
  • 24 care of elderly individuals (Women only)
  • OVC Program: Feeding scheme, Care and Support initiatives

·   Facilitate and introduce Educational Programmes and Skills Development to disadvantage individuals.
  
The premises we are currently operating from is intended to serve as a Health and Wellness Centre to facilitate skills development and training. this is to ensure that we fulfill the aims and objectives as set out above. Feeding Schemes and Soup kitchens are provided for from Tuesdays to Fridays with a Senior Citizens Club meeting on 
Wednesday and our HIV/Aids & TB Support Groups to meet on Thursdays.

A new Woman's Program which is called No More Shame Woman's Movement has been established in 2015 which also run on a Thursday. The Program offers family and marriage counselling, care and support to vulnerable women and those and individuals facing abusive situations. LOCATION:

We are operating from a building in Bethelsdorp - previously known as "Stepping Stones" (a former Juvenile Justice Centre) - which is located close to very high poverty stricken areas namely, Jacksonville, Timothy Valley, Kwa-Noxolo, France Valley, Helenvale & Barcelona in the Northern Suburbs of the NMBM. We’re also fortunate to have the use of a community member's residence in Keiga. We have also extended to the Dispatch and Uitenhage area
